The Lost Soul is a narrative story about a young lady who tries to escape the memories of a past aggression. These are so painful that it makes her loose her soul. Realizing that she can’t feel anything anymore, she quickly decides to go after it. When she decides to break her ties, not stay in the silence and be in peace with this sad event, she finally succeeds to find back that part of herself.

SYNOPSIS

TREATMENT

My film will be mostly done in stop-motion. I believe that being physically in contact with my character and manipulate it is the best way to express all the range of emotions and to give him a little shaky look. To contrast that and to separate the two entities, the soul part will be digitally hand drawn. It would give a freer and more spiritual look to it.

Night time is very interesting because it generates many contradictory feelings. It often symbolizes fear, uncertainty, and the unknown but is also a strong image of peacefulness. As I want to use those feelings to lead my animation, it was obvious to me to make my story happens during the night. On a more technical point of view, it also allows me to play a lot with the lights and the shadows to increase the dramatic side of my film. The colours would mostly be in blue and yellow tones, but very low saturated. Meanwhile, the soul will be very bright and colourful. I will illustrate the memories in the form of flashes. I don’t believe that my character needs a gender. I want to make it neutral and robotic because I want to put the emphasis on the fact that his body is a material envelope. It is the soul part that is alive. It will have an organic shape and fluid movement. There will be no dialogue, narration or voice over. The music will have a very symbolic role in my film. It will represent the soul part of my character. We will only hear it when the soul is out of the body. It will be very light, fluid, and the rhythm will give the pace of the pursuit. On top of it, there will be realistic sound effects all along the story.
